Hi Roy,
During the summer of 1964 aged 15 and still at The London Nautical School I managed to get leave and take a trip on the Avon Ranger (Avonmouth, Puerto Ordaz, Trinidad, Kilingholm).
I shared a cabin with the deck cadet who might have been Welsh. It was a year after the Cuban crisis.
It was a most interesting trip especially going up the Orinoco. Then it was back to school before I joined Canadian Pacific.
Does anyone in your group remember that passage? I can’t remember any names and I believe the old ship was scrapped soon after.
Best
