There was a good turnout of family members, although not all could attend being age related and unable to travel from the Greek Islands. Tino Duris was unable to attend as he was on a family holiday in Greece. The service was excellent and anyone who knew Vel as a work colleague, or friend or both would have enjoyed the insight into Vel’s life from the cradle to the grave. I shared a cabin with the deck cadet who might have been Welsh. It was a year after the Cuban crisis. It was a most interesting trip especially going up the Orinoco. The people of Genoa hold a memorial service every year in commemoration of the event.As far as I am aware there is only one surviving member (Officer) still alive.

- [More Sad News - Margaret Stinchcombe Passes Away.](https://lof-news.co.uk/2023/12/more-sad-news-margaret-stinchcombe-passes-away/): It is with great sadness to inform you that Margaret Stinchcombe passed away peacefully yesterday 07th December.Margaret, wife of Bob who was Chief Engineer @ LOF from more than 25 years – Bob passed away aged 89 in April 2020Margaret was aged 92 in March of this year.After her children had left home, she sailed with Bob on many occasions.Naturally we will send our condolences to Carol and the family.

John and wife Julia are keeping well, John is still a ‘Gentleman Farmer’. Spoke with Keith Cederholm who had about 20 years as 2nd Officer and Chief Officer. Keith has had several healthconcerns and issues, but remains very positive. Next week will be Ex MD/Superintendent Norris Jason’s birthday – he will be 91 and is keeping well. Connie & I are off on P&O’s ARVIA for a 3 week cruise in the Caribbean.No sea legs anymore….

A very good day out and a wonderful place.The UK Merchant Navy is well represented and some 2535 Oak Trees in The Merchant Navy Wood,representing one for every ship lost in the WWII.Stay at The George Lichfield – we enjoyed it.

- [Passing Away - Nigel Lewis](https://lof-news.co.uk/2021/09/passing-away-nigel-lewis/): Nigel was born in 1964, he joined LOF as an Engineer Cadet/Apprentice on the 01st May 1986He sailed on a variety of vessels and was promoted to Chief Engineer in the 1990’s.After leaving LOF when the company was sold, he worked for Stenna Ferries.
